IH Awareness Month - Day 30

Today is the last day of Intracranial Hypertension Awareness Month! Looking back on my daily posts from last year, I wish I was in a different spot.

But there is a sad truth...I'm in the same spot just at a different pain level right now. I have had a pain level of at least 6/10 every day since around 8/25/2012. I still have the same problems with debating the ER because like last week, I will most likely be dismissed even when sent by two different doctor's offices.

The truth is I'm worse. I am currently walking around feeling like someone blew a balloon up in my head and someone else is slowly tightening an adjustable wrench on the outside. I still get looks because unless they are doing a lumbar puncture or see swelling on my optic nerve, there isn't much to physically see. But I still fight, I still went to the ER when told to because the pain was too bad. The ER didn't even do a basic neuro exam much less look at my eyes to see if there was swelling. They battled something else then sent me home because in the end, they didn't know what to do.

As a patient, I do everything I can but unlike other things. But unlike some medical issues, following the rules and guidelines does not mean that I will get any better. In fact, I can do everything asked down to the second of accuracy and still get worse.

Intracranial Hypertension needs more research and funding and awareness. If you can help, I ask you to find a way to donate to the IHRF this September, share some IH awareness posts, go to the IHRF and learn some more about IH. Most of us fighting are patients and our families, we can always use more friends to help win more battles!
